Doc Holliday: The Life and Legend.
By Gary L. Roberts
John Wiley & Sons, 2006. Soft cover. $18.95
A biography that takes aim at the
most complex, perplexing, and paradoxical gunfighter of the old West. Drawn
on more than 20 years of research, Roberts discovered numerous new primary
sources in his quest to understand both what John Henry Holliday did and
didn't do, and what these exploits meant to the elusive man behind the
now-legendary deeds. Roberts explores Holliday's idyllic, antebellum
childhood in Georgia, where he was schooled in the manly virtues of
independence, loyalty, proficiency with weapons of every kind, and above all,
honor.

The Lost Dutchman Mine of Jacob Waltz: Part 2 The Holmes Manuscript
by George "Brownie" Holmes Compiled and Annotated by T. E. Glover
Cowboy Miner Productions, 2000 softcover $17.95
The Holmes Manuscript is the only surviving account of any of the
pioneer families originally involved with Jacob Waltz (the "Lost
Dutchman") and his gold. Here unfolds for the first time the originals
story of Jacob Waltz and the Lost Dutchman Mine, accompanied by original
Holmes' family photographs.
The Manuscript was discovered uncataloged in the vaults of the
Arizona State Library in the early 1970s among the private papers of an early
newspaperman. The question became: Is this the genuine lost manuscript of the
Holmes family? After all, George "Brownie" Holmes - the apparent
author - disclaimed any and all association with it.
Was Brownie telling the truth? Or, was he trying to confuse others who
searched for the mine? Through a decade of research in the archives and
private libraries, supported by interviews with Brownie's surviving family,
the author has authenticated the manuscript. It has been annotated and indexed
by T. E. Glover.
This is the second of a two book series on the mine: The Lost
Dutchman Mine of Jacob Waltz. This volume is cross referenced to Part
I, The Golden Dream, and to the Hikers Guide to the Superstition
Wilderness.
